How To Get Rid Of Heartburn And Nausea Cause By Acid Reflux

Updated on January 20, 2011

If you are looking to get rid of heartburn and nausea caused by acid reflux disease you are probably experiencing the effects of acid reflux disease at this time. Heartburn and nausea cause by acid reflux are uncomfortable, embarressing, and at times painful symptoms.

The upper esophageal sphincter, this is the cause of the spitting up of stomach fluids or complete loss of meals, generally in the evening. For some acid reflux suffers, such as myself, the spitting up or regurgitation of stomach fluids can come without nausea. The upper esophageal sphincter is a muscle. Think of it as a one way bodygaurd that lets food and fluids pass downward, but when doing its job right, is not allowed to let anything come upward. Unfortnetly for those of us suffering from acid reflux disease or gastroesophageal reflux disease, our upper esophageal sphincter isn't a very good bodygaurd when irritated or inflamed. It allows fluids, stomach acids, and occasionally bile, to come back up in small amounts causing heartburn, or in large amounts causing these fluids to forcefully project upward causing uncontrolled vomiting and spitting up. The more the fluids irritate and inflame the muscle, the worse the condition gets.

How To Get Rid Of Heartburn and Nausea

Quick fixes work for mild heartburn. Take some Tums or Rolaids and heartburn is gone. This is not the case with People suffering with GERD or Acid Reflux Disease. For these people, a long term approach to treating their disease is neccesary.

OTC medications are available to treat GERD or Acid Reflux Disease. Pepcid AC, Prilosec, etc. These pills work and if taken every day for at least 14 days, the uncomfortable and embarressing symptoms can be brought under control and even unnoticeable. My favorite is actually the Costco Kirkland brand Acid Reducer OTC medication. It's affordable and works wonders.

If your are a sufferer of GERD or Acid Reflux Disease, you may not be able to stop taking the medications. 14 days will calm the symptoms, but the only way to keep them from coming back is to continue treating the disease with these medicines.
